Baby Health Advice and Information
It is difficult as a first-time mom, or seasoned mom, to determine how sick your child is and if you should you take them to the doctor. In most cases it is just a cold but as a parent we always assume the worste. You may be wondering "How long and how high should their fever run?" Before we get into any of the medical details we always recommend that you call the hospital's nurse line and explain the symptoms to a professional. It is free and generally fairly quick.
Fevers:
The general rule of thumb for determining whether or not to call the doctor when your child is sick is... call. There is no real penalty for calling the doctor plus it will help you sleep at night. On a numbers basis, however, you should call the doctor for varying levels of temperature depending on your child's age.
0-3 Months: You should call when the temperature reaches 100.4 degrees.
3-6 Months: You should call when the temperature reaches 101 degrees.
Above six Months: You should call when the temperature reaches 103 degrees.
Symptoms:
If you do end up having to call the doctor then they will be asking you for a list of the baby's symptoms. Be specific and tell the doctor only how the baby is different from normal. Pale, Flushed, coughing, vomitting, ect. Don't try to diagnose the illness yourself by using the internet. Most times you will only find the worste disease possible and give yourself a stroke.
